Birmingham, AL ? In two short weeks, the nation?s oldest cultural education entity of its kind is launching the Alabama International Business Awards program to showcase the international business community in Alabama.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21st at The Club starting with a reception at 5:30 pm and culminating with an awards dinner at 7:00 pm. Award nominees include:

The new awards, based on the Crystal Crown Award created by the Birmingham International Center in 1992, are designed to raise public awareness and visibility for companies, organizations and individuals that are connecting globally.

?Without international trade, Alabama?s economy would be severely affected,? says Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture, John McMillan. ?Alabama businesses that participate in global trade not only contribute to our economy, they also contribute Alabama?s positive image in the world. The Alabama International Business Awards initiative is more important now than ever.?

The awards program is chaired by Tanveer Patel, an Asian-Indian born serial entrepreneur with experience in international trade. ?There are so many dynamic companies and leaders in Alabama doing business all over the world, but they often go unrecognized,? says Patel. ?One of the goals of this program is to tell a story of openness, creativity and commerce here in Alabama.? Co-chairs of the program include James Childs of Bradley, Arant, Boult Cummings, LLP and Cecil Bostany of Warren Averett, LLC.

Awards to be presented include:

  • International Deal of the Year? (small, medium, large)
  • International Collaboration of the Year
  • International Investment of the Year

????????? International Business Recruitment of the Year

????????? International Advocate of the Year

  • Emerging Company of the Year
  • Sundeep A. Caplash Business Award of Excellence
  • Crystal Crown Award

The distinguished keynote speaker for the awards program is Sam DiPiazza, a University of Alabama graduate that is recognized among the very top CEOs in the world. Mr. DiPiazza currently serves as Vice President & Chairman of the Institutional Clients Group for CitiGroup and formerly served as the Global CEO for PricewaterhouseCoopers. DiPiazza recently served on the Board of Directors for the Mayo Clinic, DirecTV and Apollo Group, Inc.

He will discuss the critical importance of Alabama businesses to build global relationships that cross international borders.

Companies may reserve a table of eight for $1,000. Individual tickets are $75 per person.
