Everyone knows how to paint over a room, but some tend to forget the simple task of covering their borders, window frames, and doors. These areas require just as much preparation as you would need for your wall. However, since the borders often cover a smaller surface, it takes much less time to get them ready.

There are a couple of extra things you may want to do with borders, though, so pay attention to these preparation tips below.

? Take all nails and screws out. If there is anything jutting out of the border, remove it.

? Remove any chipped paint or border paper. Make sure your surface is smooth so the paint will show up evenly.

? Fill any holes or cracks in your border. When you are done with this step, sand everything down so it doesn?t look tacky.

? Scrub your border clean and remove as much dirt and grime as you can. If necessary, break out your vacuum and suck up smaller dust particles. They can gather in the paint and cause clumping.

? Use a small paint brush for paint application. A roller or any brush that is too wide is definitely not advisable for this task.

Some articles recommend the use of a Paint Zoom, but this may be one that the paint sprayer, Paint Zoom can?t quite take care of. Attempting to use this product on a thin border or frame can prove to be nearly impossible to do without a mess. It is one of the few Paint Zoom problems. Other than using them for frames and border linings, you can use them for doors, provided that you have the proper protection so the paint won?t spread out.
