Deadmau5's Twitter Collaboration: DJ Uses Fan's Unsolicited Vocals on Song

Whether you're a fan of Deadmau5 or not, his latest move is pretty cool. This past weekend, the progressive house titan, known for his giant mouse costume head, began working on a new track titled 'The Veldt,' inspired by Ray Bradbury's sci-fi short story of the same name.

In typical fashion, Deadmau5 (born Joel Zimmerman) streamed the process live, letting fans watch as he sampled himself clapping his own ass for a drum sound and his cat bit a female friend. At the mention that he'd need to plot vocals for the instrumental, a fan named Chris James sang "some unique shoegaze-ish vocals over 'The Veldt,'" with lyrics inspired by Bradbury's subject matter, and tweeted it over to Deadmau5.

At the bidding of his followers, the Toronto DJ eventually gave the track a listen and responded quite enthusiastically.

"Dude... You F---ing Kidding Me???? God Damn!" he tweeted.

Continuing to stream live, Deadmau5 called James on the phone, made plans to officially release the track, got his manager on speakerphone and generally changed the fan's life.

"It's so rare that you get shit like that!" Deadmau5 exclaimed. "I feel like Simon Cowell. Dude that's f---in' awesome. It really is actually really good. Done. Let's make it a track dude. When my management hears this, they're gonna shit themselves."

Though the finished version with James' vocals has yet to leak, several fan-made versions are online now (replete with commentary by Deadmau5, as he saves and exports the track). Check one out here.
