Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini ? The smallest HD smartphone

Sony Ericsson launched 2 new phones at the beginning of the month from the Xperia series called Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro, which come to enlarge the smartphone universe in a moment in which the company faces a very strong assault made by rivals.

The first of them has also been called the smallest HD smartphone by the Japanese-Swedish company. I will present it in the following lines. The Xperia Mini Pro will also be presented in a future article.

Design and build characteristics

Xperia Mini has a similar design to the Xperia X10 Mini, a phone that was launched at the beginning of the last year. Its small size of 88 x 52 x 16 mm makes it easily fit in your hand. The phone keeps its 3 physical buttons. Obviously the LCD LED-backlit display dominates the front side of the smartphone which includes the Mobile Bravia engine developed by Sony.

The back side does not come out of the ordinary with anything. You will notice the camera and its HD logo, which is meant to tell you that the camera can record in this format.

Technical specs

As mentioned before Xperia Mini?s display has a 3? diagonal and allows a resolution of 320?480 pixels, which is the minimum compatible resolution for the Google Android operating system.

The phone runs on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor helped by the Adreno 205 graphics card and 512 MB of RAM memory. The internal memory is not generous (only 320 MB), but it can be extended with a microSD card.

As we were expecting from a modern smartphone connectivity is great: for internet you can use 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS or EDGE, while for local transfer of files you can use Bluetooth or microUSB.

The camera has a resolution of 5 MP and additional functions such as autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, image stabilizer and touch focus. However the main feature of the camera remains its capability of recording in HD 720p format.

According to official data the Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery allows a stand by time of up to 340 hours and a call time of up to 4 and a half hours.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini will be available starting the month of August of this year at a yet unannounced price. The great thing is that it will use the 2.3 Gingerbread version of the Android operating system.
