A former chess player-turned snooker artist is this year?s World Ten Ball Championships kingpin.

According to Filipino IM Marlon Bernardino, Huidji See, a Chinese player-born in the Netherlands, ruled the event by outlasting Fu Jianbo of China, 11-8, in the finals on Sunday here at the World Trade Center.

See pocketed US$ 60,000 for topping the biggest prize in pool for men this year to follow the footsteps of fellow European World Ten Ball Champion Darren ?Dynamite? Appleton of Great Britain and Mika ?Iceman? Immonen of Finland.

See?s victory allowed the crown to remain in Europe?s possession for the third straigh time of WTBC held here in Manila in the Florentino Makabenta?s Raya Sports event in close cooperation withe the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP) and long-time billiards patron Sebastian ?Baste? Chua of Star Billiards Center and sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA).

?This is a dream come true,? said See. ?I felt like it was only a dream and I have to pinch myself several times to see if it?s real and it?s real indeed.?

Given the moniker ?The Genius?, See outlasted Fu in a tense encounter.

A missed corner shot at No.3 in the 19th rack allowed See to wrap up the match.

See took a commanding 4-1, 5-2, 8-6, 9-7 lead and never looked back.

Unaware of the moniker given to him, See, who also won the US 10-Ball Open in 2007, was happy to hear it when the event barker introduced their names right before the start of the match.

?I like it,? said See, referring to the moniker ?Genius.?
But See attributed his success to his girlfriend, Anna, who played a key part in winning the championship.

?Once in awhile, I visit her in Beijing,? said See. ?I?m planning to visit her again Monday.?

On the road to the race-to-11 finals, See ousted Yukio Akakariyama of Japan, 9-6, in the first-semi-final matches while Fu defeated Carlo Biado of the Philippines, 9-5, in the second semi-final matches.
