Do you have a Human Resource Strategic Plan? | Northland Business ...

Do you have a Human Resource Strategic Plan?
Good Human Resource strategy provides the essential foundation for future success.
Irrespective of the size of your business, having a clear human resource strategy built into your overall business strategy is essential.
Your HR strategy should:
? Define, in general, how your business is going to achieve its goals through your Human Resources (your employees).
? Maximise the $ potential of your business through recruiting the right person for the right job. This requires a (strategic) job analysis and a comprehensive Position Description BEFORE you recruit. This Position Description would include the ?soft skills? such as the organisation?s values and position responsbilities that will propel your business towards its strategic goals.
? Articulate the main points of difference from your competitors and then decide what skills and experience you will need to maintain this point of difference.
? Unite and focus your team?s efforts on the strategic goals of your business and develop a training, coaching and succession plan to ensure that the goals are met by the people you employ.
? Have clear guidelines for recruitment and selection and who the decision makers are to ensure skills, experience and values align with the organisation?s values and strategic goals. Interview questions should be prepared to ?tease? out answers that demonstrate whether the candidate has the skills, experience and right values for the job and will be capable of taking your organisation towards its strategic goals.
? Plan how your employees will facilitate increased profitability, growth and longevity.

How clear is your business strategy?
It is essential to have a clear strategy that everyone in your business understands and can contribute to. To see how clear your business strategies are:
A) Answer the following questions yourself and then ask three or four of your staff:
1. In your job what do you think are the most important things you need to achieve?
2. What are the four things that make us different from our competitors?
3. What key things do we do really well?
4. What are our current business priorities?
5. What is our value statement?
6. Do we ?walk the talk? of our values statement and strategic goals?
B) Have a look at the answers. How consistent are they? Can you see a theme running through them? Does the theme resonate with what your core business strategies are?
C) Decide what this exercise tells you, and what you need to do achieve better results.
